Beta the Sea Otter
Beta the Sea Otter is a playful generative media project where I explored AI image and video generation as a tool for character creation and internet culture. Inspired by my love for sea otters, I designed an original character named Beta, starting by defining its visual identity through Midjourney image generation. I then extended Beta beyond static imagery by generating short AI videos based on the original character design, adding small moments of motion and personality. These videos were converted into GIFs and curated into a series of memes. The project was an experiment in how AI can support character design, storytelling, and humor.

Reflection: Coreating with AI
Beta the Sea Otter was created at a moment when Midjourney had just introduced its video generation features, and this small meme project became my entry point into AI media creation. What started as a lighthearted experiment quickly sparked a deeper interest in how AI could be used for storytelling and multi-media expressions. From there, I continued exploring a broader ecosystem of generative tools, including Midjourney, Runway, Sora, ElevenLabs, Gemini, Suno, etc., using them both to enhance narrative storytelling in product design projects and to support my own artistic exploration.
